Google offers $10 call credit to military families over the holiday season Google Gives $10 Credit To Call Troops

In attempt to ease the cost of calling those serving abroad in the military, Google is offering $10 of calling credit to help US families connect with their loved ones via Gmail’s built-in video chat service.

The $10 free credit offer can be redeemed either via the Google Voice service or by the video chat interface via Gmail, giving approximately 30 minutes of call-time to Afghanistan, 60 minutes to Iraq or many hours worth of calls to various European countries.

Google already offers free calls to the U.S and Canada, allowing Google users to be able to call home no matter how far away they might be.

Families looking to take advantage of the offer will need to be a member of either the Blue Star Families and Sesame Street Family Connections, two organisations dedicated to supporting service members and their families, signing up is free for all military families.

From there, they will need to supply the organisations with their Gmail address, enable calling within their Google accounts (or take advantage of their existing Google Voice account) making sure that they complete the registration before December 22 2010.
